Midseason bloom. Color Class-B1, Flax blue self, violet flush on Falls, bluish-white beard. ( ‘Regina Maria’ x ‘Good Manners’) X ( ‘White Bouquet’ x sib to Curl’d Cloud’). Wild 1962.

BRAVE VIKING, Georgia Hinkle’s 1962 introduction, is a worthy addition to her fine line of blue irises. Lighter in tone than TRITON, with form that defies faulting, BRAVE VIKING expresses the sought-after traits of good branching, multiple buds, substantial stems and long-lasting flowers. [Melba Hamblen, “Irises Seen in California Gardens, 1963,” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 173 (April 1964): 10.]

Georgia Hinkle and fine blue irises go hand-in-hand. Her two 1962 introductions, BRAVE VIKING and HELEN KELLER, were excellent this year. HELEN KELLER is very early, blooming well ahead of most of the TBs. The flowers are huge, and we go for the light blue color, veiner darker. BRAVE VIKING is later, but it, too, is very broad and is a self of near medium blue, with a huge fuzzy beard of yellow. [Joseph Ghio, “The 1965 Iris Season in Review,” Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 179 (October 1965): 80.]
