Full Description
TB 34″ EM R4L
From DeForest’s Irisnoll catalog for 1949: “Height 36 inches. Good form and substance in a flower of startling color contrast. More pink than Spindrift, with bright purplish area on the haft and extending onto the fall the length of the bright tangerine beard.”
From the Court of Iris 1955 “COLOR CARNIVAL (DeForest ’49) M 37″ $2.50 (Spindrift X [ (Salar X Sandia) X (Prairie Sunset)] Note the similarity to the breeding of ‘Cloud Cap’. Either
you’ll like this very much or not at all. It is quite flashy and most of our visitors liked its brilliant ‘Carnival’ coloring of pink with bold dashes of violet-purple on the falls. A good parent. H.M. ’50”.
From Cooleys Iris Garden Catalog 1952 “A startling arrangement of colors in the range of the new pinks. The ground color is a deep shade of pink in both standards and falls, with heavy markings of vivid purple on the falls. Beard is tangerine red. Big flowers, verywell formed, on excellent stalks.”
From Eden Road Iris Garden catalog for 1955: “EM 37 in. (Spindrift) X ((Salar x Sandia) x Prairie Sunset). Rich pink with tangerine beard. Upper part of falls is colored bright purple. Striking and startling.”
From Schreiner’s Iris Lover’s catalog for 1958: “Admittedly not everyone will go for this Iris, but nine garden visitors out of ten stop and exclaim over it. A garish strawberry pink with contrasting purple veinings near the tangerine beard, it makes a highly novel clump. Novelty Iris are much in demand and this certainly qualifies as an outstanding one.”
From Schreiner’s Iris Lover’s catalog for 1962: “A startling arrangement of colors in the range of the new pinks. The ground color is a deep shade of pink in both standards and falls, with heavy markings of vivid purple on the falls. Beard is tangerine-red. Big flowers, very well formed, on excellent stalks.”
(Spindrift x sdlg #6-44), HM 1950.
