From Eden Road Iris Garden catalog for 1961: “Standards are blackish violet. Falls are solid jet black over all. Beard is deep violet. Medium sized.”

From Wild’s of Missouri catalog for 1972: “Standards are deep blackish violet; falls are solid jet-black with a velvety finish. Dark violet beard. Excellent form; good substance; branching; dependable bloomer.”Frimo Lloyd Austin’s Iris Color Guidebook 1963 “The crowning achievement of Paul Cook’s long series of hybridizations for better blacks. Has often been referred to as the deepest of all blacks. It is a blue-black, has incredible depth of color, which holds and is non fading. Standards deep blackish violet; falls solid jet black with velvety finish, clean hats, dark violet beard. A real beauty.”
