From Walter Marx Gardens catalog for 1960: “Our first truly double Marhigo introduction and perhaps the most beautiful Japanese Iris in our collection. We have grown a few imported double or ‘Peony type’ Higo varieties which can not measure up to this exquisitely ruffled pure white Marhigo. The extra petals are more fully developed and more gracefully arranged in each blossom. In fact, when this seedling was first exhibited many visitors mistook it for a white peony or rose. Half opened blooms do closely resemble the loveliest white hybrid tea roses. Here is truly a rare collector’s item that will bring real prestige to the gardens of the most discriminating. Medium size flowers on 36 to 40 inch stems. We only have a few plants to spare this year.”
