Full Description
TB 33″ MLa Y4D
From Quality Gardens catalog for 1930: “A great improvement on Shekinah. Chrome yellow throughout, except for the orange beard. It has a rare finish of texture and form. It is rather close between Primrose and Gold Imperial, as they are very much alike, but we prefer Gold Imperial because it is a shade deeper in color and about 3″ taller.”
From Cayeux et LeClerc’s catalog for 1927: “Soft yellow with orange beard. Height 2½ ft.”
From Carl Salbach Iris 1929;”Chrome yellow throughout except for the orange beard, it has rare finish of texture and form. Richer in color than Shekinah~ H. M. A. 1. S. 1922 …. $3.00 each.”
From Oakhurst Gardens catalog for 1939: “A very fine deep yellow of medium size and heavy texture. Almost an ever bloomer in California.”
From Stumpp & Walters,Newark NJ 1933″Deep chrome yellow throughout, enhanced by a bright orange beard”.
From Gln Road Iris Garden, Wellesley Farms, MA (Grace Sturtevant’s garden), c. 1925: “Chrome yellow throughout except for the orange beard. It has a rare finish of texture and form”.
((Hector x Caterina) X Stanley H. White), HM 1922, AM 1928, AM RHS 1929.
Note from LM: At first glance it seems somewhat curious that Ms Sturtevant released two iris in the year 1924 that look almost indistinguishable in pictures: Gold Imperial and Chalice. However Ms Sturtevant does point out that while they are similar Chalice has a pure yellow beard and Gold Imperial has an orange one”. Aee Chalice.
