From N.A. Hallauer’s Select List for 1918: “S. Bright coppery crimson; F. Rich maroon. 30 in. Extra.”

From the Cornell Extension Bulletin 112, 1925: “Color effect a bright russet-crimson, velvety bordeaux bicolor. …The bronzed orange beard is fine, dense, and projecting. This plant is a vigorous grower, and has lax, slender, deep green foliage, tinged at the base. Its excellent, velvety blooms are freely produced and well carried on long stems. Rating 80.”

From J.C. Nicholls Irises catalog for 1928: “S. coppery crimson. F. deep red purple. In a class with Prosper Laugier, but is taller, has smaller bloom, and is brighter. Is still popular in its 88th year.”

From Indian Spring Farms catalog for 1931: “An old Iris of brown tones. Distinct and beautiful. 4 ft.”
