From Linwood Gardens Iris 1936 “This brilliant large flowered iris, introduced by HP Sass in 1931 is one of the best variegatas of today. Of find form and texture, the color clear, pronounced and striking,S. purest deep yellow, with broad falls of dark velvety red. HM 1932. 36″  Each .75′”

From Cooley’s Gardens catalog for 1937: “Clear golden standards and brilliantly contrasting falls of velvety red, the latter especially wide and heavy of texture. A red and yellow effect as compared with the orange and brown of Crown Prince”

From Robert Wayman’s catalog for 1940: “One of the half dozen finest ‘Variegatas’ and my own personal choice of them all. It is a huge flower, of perfect form and substance, a robust grower and prodigious bloomer. In fact it has every good quality. S – old gold; F – Dahlia Carmine. A brilliant and effective garden subject. The color illustration on page 13 does not begin to show the real richness and beauty of the flower.”

(King Tut X Cardinal), HM 1932.
