Full Description

IB 28″ EM S9D

From the Longfield Iris Farm catalog for 1934: “One of the first of the tall, bearded varieties to flower. The S. are golden buff suffused garnet brown edged golden buff. The heavy beard is of deepest orange and the center of the flower and the hafts are illuminated with intense golden lights, whence the name. A flower of fine quality, finish and form. 28 inches.”

From Linwood Iris Gardens 1936 “It is impossible to describe the golden beauty of this captivating iris. S. Burnished gole. F. garnet flushed mauve shading to a golden margin. Bright orange beard, medium height. Well branched often with 7 flowers to a stem. Each .35.”

From Robert Wayman’s catalog for 1940: “Early. This variety is in a class entirely by itself as to color and is one of the most beautiful iris we have. It represents an entirely new color break, a golden-buff and garnet-brown bi-color blend, but this description gives but a faint idea of its great beauty.”
