From Cooley’s Gardens catalog for 1932: “Sister seedling of the wonderful plicata San Francisco. A giant in size, snowy white, with faint edgings of lavender-blue. Splendid stalks were on exhibit in the St. Paul iris show, and it was growing and blooming lustily in the Schreiner garden in that city, indicating that it is really quite hardy when once acclimated.”
From Robert Wayman’s catalog for 1932: “A new giant plicata on the order of San Francisco. White with a feather stitching of pale blue on the edges.”
From Oakhurst Gardens catalog for 1939: “Great white flowers of fine shape and substance, the standards faintly edged blue with the blue style arms adding a note of clear blue in the center. Tall and well branched.”
From Walter Marx’s Gardens catalog for 1948: “With all its admirable qualities this iris still ranks with the best blue and white plicatas. The perfectly poised flowers are clear white except for the bright blue stitching on the hafts and the base of the standards.”

Comment: Notice the 15 year delay in awards. That Los Angeles was not to be considered for that first Dykes Medal due to a timing matter was resoundingly unfair to many. Members argued that it was most deserving and their candid comments and AIS response can be found throughout earlier AIS Bulletins. Their sustained interest secured these Awards to honor it with. sdt
