From Puget Sound catalog 1929: “S. heliotrope; F. darker; prominent orange beard. Vigorous very large flowers; a general pastel effect. Appropriately named ‘Storm Cloud’.”

From the Lee R. Bonnewitz Irises catalog for 1926: “S. slate blue with bronze shading; F. bronze and purple; very large flowers.”
