From Carl Salbach’s catalog for 1934: “A flower of pearly character and very attractive to iris lovers. Falls a blend of bluish lavender, standards iridescent steel blue. Brown haft and yellow beard. Smooth finish.”
From The Longfield Iris Farm catalog for 1936: “S. Smoky blue; F. rich purple, blue in center shading to much paler blue at the margin with dull gold markings at haft. Unique coloring.”
From Robert Wayman’s catalog 1936: ” Fragrant. Massive blooms in a unique bleeding of rich colors, reminding one of the colors in a Persian rug, hence the name. The flower has a glistening silku texture and is one of the finest irises we have.”
From Cooley’s Gardens catalog for 1938: “One of Dr. Ayres’ masterpieces. Blended shades of pale blue, lavender, grey, and bronze, with a smoky veil enveloping the entire flower. Massive blooms in great abundance, with many tall and splendidly branched stalks. A well named variety that will prove an asset in any iris garden.”
