From The Wing Seed Co. catalog for 1920: “Very large and elegantly formed flowers, orchid type. S. white deeply frilled bright bluish-violet; F. pure velvety white, lightly bordered bluish-violet along sides; style arms clear bluish-violet. Lovely. 30″.”
From Bonnewitz Irises catalog for 1926: “Standards and falls pure white bordered pale violet. Mid-season. Similar to Anna Farr and nearly equal to it in quality. One of the most popular standard varieties. Tall, vigorous grower.”
From Pudor’s Puget Sound catalog 1929: “An attractive variety of the Mme Chereau type. S. tall and waved margined, violet blue on a white ground. F. slightly margined violet-blue. Height 2′.”
From Indian Spring Farms catalog for 1931: “Orchid-like flower with frilled petals. S. white bordered lavender-violet; F. white with less coloring.”
Note: The variety Swertii has been known to be passed around as Pocahontas. They can be easily distinguished as Swertii has tucked falls, Pocahontas does not.
