From Maple Valley Iris Gardens catalog for 1945:: “A ruby red pansy iris that has been called ‘an Amigo done in reds’. The standards are rich red purple, the falls deep red purple velvet edged with the color of the stands. The gold patterned haft serves to accentuate the pansy resemblance.”
From Schreiner’s Iris Lover’s catalog for 1947:: “A bicolor of wine purple standards with flaring, blackish-red velvety falls strikingly margined with a precise edging on the falls. Called the pansy iris, the color pattern, in red purple, recalls Amigo.” From National Iris Gardens catalog for 1948: “Gorgeous wine purple standards with flaring falls of deeper toned velvety red, edged with the same color of the standards, classes this flower as another pansy-iris. Our stock is limited.”
