From Quality Gardens catalog for 1935: “An attractive variety of clear claret red. S. and F. of same shade and the bloom stalk especially remarkable because of its splendid habits. A fine sort, highly thought of in England.”
From Cooley’s Gardens catalog for 1936: “Introduced by the Orpington Nurseries in England, this richly colored iris stands out as the reddest yet to come from that country. With blooms larger than the best of the Dominion race, it carries its brilliant claret-red flowers on strongly branched stems, and is so highly regarded in England that it is rated at 91.”
From Robert Wayman’s catalog for 1940: “Delightfully fragrant. Given an Award of Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society of France. A gorgeous Iris in a unique and very lovely mulberry tone and one of the most beautiful Iris in my collection. I am sorry I do not have a color plate of it, as it is wanted by everyone who sees it. Sold in 1932 for $25.00 for a single plant, but a large stock of extra fine plants now permits a low price.”
