From the Steven Bros. catalog for 1946-47: “An Excellent pure white of clean cut rounded form and remarkable substance. Of largest size, the flowers have that new quality of clean even texture we are coming to associate with the newest irises. Very free flowering and an excellent doer.”
(Purissima X New Dawn).
Note: Pattie F. Levett and her sister Olga, daughters of Nina Levett, lived at the family homestead “Beccles” in a small town called Bulls in New Zealand. Bulls is where Jean and Wally Stevens started out just after marrying, and before moving later to Wanganui. The Steven’s Bros. nursery introduced Miss Levett’s irises. The irises pictured here are sourced to the Levett garden.
